The purpose of opening of the Maayer Asha, Balitikuri center was to keep bigger girls for their further studies, since many good Bengali medium schools are around Baltikuri. It was established on 5th May 2004.The pioneer sisters were Srs. Emilia Tirkey and Roshni Aind. Our apostolate is to look after the children at Risk. We run this house in collaboration with Don Bosco, Ashalayam. The Sisters supervise the study of the children and the classes X students are given tuition in the convent by the teachers from outside. The people in the neighborhood are not very friendly with the Sisters but the sisters try to maintain good relationship with them. The people appreciate us for our life style and the service we render to the abandoned in the society. They say “serving humanity is serving God.” You are doing good work for the society.  They ask our prayers for their family.

The house was constructed by the Province with the help received from the Committee of Doctors, Frankfurt and the German Government for the children at Risk and for their growth. We have no vocation from Howrah parish. The present apostolate carried out is social work in the form of visiting families especially the Catholic families of Howrah Parish. The impression we have created in the minds of the people around is that, they feel we are united and take care of the children. The fruit of our labor is seen in the lives of the children who are under our care and the people appreciate us because children who were unfortunate and downtrodden, who had no chance of having good education are taken care so well and that they are able to stand in par with other children in the society. At present we have 26 girls studying class IV to X. Besides the school education, various opportunities are provided to develop their talents like dance, music, drawing, Guide etc. which will enable them to get job facilities in life. We do visit the families in the parish as far as possible.
