7. AUXILIUM CONVENT SCHOOL, SILIGURI

History:

Auxilium Convent started a Kindergarten school in 1982. It was the long cherished dream of the parents to have us opened a high school for the education of their children, who were denied admission in other Schools. We run the Kindergarten school for 18 years. The parents were happy with the progress of their children and the care the sisters and teachers rendered to the children. They repeatedly requested the authorities to proceed with the school. But the sisters had neither land nor means to purchase the required land for the school.

At the constant request of the parents the superiors realized the importance of proceeding the school. Therefore, they approached the General Council for permission to proceed with the classes to which they agreed. We also requested the Generalate for an amount of Rs. 61 lakhs (rupees sixty one lakhs only) for the purchase of land which would be reimbursed to them once we get the money from the school.

Although no building Class I was started in 2001. Fr. V. L. Francis, sdb then Parish priest of Savio Parish, Siliguri, gave two class rooms in their Parish Hall to start the classes. Class II was conducted in the Novitiate study hall. In the meantime, the land was purchased and constructions began.

It was indeed challenging, yet the sisters decided to find a plot of land for the construction of the school building. Hence today God has blessed us with a beautiful school established on 16.6. 2008 with necessary facilities for the well being and quality education of our students. Parents appreciate us very much for the efforts made for the education of their children. At present we have classes from I to X, the strength being about 1200 students. It is a co- educational institution with efficient sisters and staff. There are at present 12 catholic students and altogether 25 students are being offered concession for their studies. We hope to upgrade this school in the future to a higher secondary school. The General Council granted permission to form a separate community for the smooth running of the school and the well being of the sisters who are engaged in the field of education.

In the proceeding high school due to the various types of political and social problems the school sisters are entangled with too many demands from the public. The sisters are doing their best in collaboration with our superiors for its betterment. Today Auxilium Convent School is well known to the society. We have the joy of having the school affiliated to ICSE board New Delhi. All our activities are being centered on the missionary charism of the congregation. People appreciate our work as missionaries. We contribute to the poor in the villages by our committed service in season and out of season. The parents of our students appreciate us for the service we render their children. We are indeed happy to see our students holding professional studies as their future carriers. They are ever grateful to the sisters.
